About Community Gas Systems™ Propane Distribution Systems
History of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation and Sharp Energy
Chesapeake Utilities Corporation (NYSE: CPK) enjoys a long and prosperous history. The Dover Gas Light Company, formed in 1859, would eventually become Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, even though the company wasn't officially incorporated in the State of Delaware until 88 years later in 1947. The very next year, Chesapeake acquired two smaller gas companies, one in Seaford, Delaware, and the other in nearby Salisbury, Maryland, and the company hasn't stopped growing since – yet our focus remains on providing the highest level of service to the communities we serve.
Today, Chesapeake consists of four primary business segments: Natural gas distribution, transmission and marketing; propane distribution and wholesale marketing; advanced information systems; and other services. In total, Chesapeake employs more than 400 people and subscribes to the philosophy that the business is a partnership between our customers, our employees, the communities we serve, our investors and our business partners.
As a subsidiary of Chesapeake, Sharp Energy specializes in the design and operation of innovative propane distribution systems. Sharp has been providing reliable, dependable gas service on the Delmarva Peninsula and beyond for over 25 years and has built regulated gas distribution systems for over 15 years. Sharp is dedicated to providing reliable customer service and safety while offering a cost-effective option for consumers nationwide -- that's why more than 34,000 customers choose Sharp as their energy provider.
